From Strength to Strength: Honoring the Journey and Looking Ahead
An Announcement from Rabbi Jeff Stombaugh
Dear Friends,
This is a bittersweet moment. Over the past five years, Stephanie and I have fallen deeply in love with Detroit —its grit, its warmth, its hustle, and its vibrant Jewish life. Serving as your Executive Director of The Well has been one of the greatest honors of my life.
The relationships we’ve formed and the impact we’ve made in this community have shaped me and our family in ways we will carry forever—and I’m excited to share what’s next.
This summer, I will step into a new role as Senior Rabbi of Vassar Temple in Poughkeepsie, NY—located in the heart of the Hudson Valley and just a train ride from New York City. This next chapter is an exciting opportunity to grow as a rabbi and leader, while being nearer to our family just a short drive away in Connecticut. Even though we’ll be moving, our relationship with Jewish Detroit is far from over, and we’ll always carry Pure Michigan in our hearts.
I’ll begin my new role in July, with our move planned for June. In the months ahead, I look forward to celebrating what we’ve created together and only deepening our relationships for the sake of the Jewish future we’re still shaping.
I am also thrilled to share news of an evolving relationship between The Well and Temple Israel. As we move forward, we plan to harness the incredible energy and engagement that makes this community so special, building upon The Well’s strong foundation to vision for the future. Please keep an eye out for upcoming communications about this new chapter, and the exciting opportunities it will bring for all of us.
Thank you for being part of this incredible journey. I’m deeply proud of what we’ve built, and filled with hope and excitement for what lies ahead.
With gratitude and big love,
Rabbi Jeff Stombaugh

Thank you, Marisa!
After nearly seven years, Marisa Meyerson will be concluding her full-time role at The Well at the end of April.
Marisa has been a steadfast anchor of The Well community since 2018. Working with both Rabbi Dan and I, she has shaped the fabric of The Well with deep intentionality, thoughtfulness, and joy. Quite literally, she has touched thousands of lives—bringing people together and connecting friends that have turned into chosen family, embodying The Well’s values through and through!
Marisa has been at the heart of this organization, with her fingerprints on everything from our signature programs and curated small groups to our fundraising strategy, team culture, and the very pulse of our community.
She leaves behind a legacy of excellence and care that will continue to ripple through The Well and beyond! While her presence will be missed, we know Marisa will always be part of our extended mishpacha.
Please join me in thanking Marisa for her incredible service and wishing her all the best in what comes next.
WHAT MAKES THIS LIGHT DIFFERENT? A Passover Reflection
What makes our light different from all other light? As we prepare to tell our Jewish story with food and friends, I think about the light we’ve kindled together. This year, as you break matzah, sing songs, and ask questions, may you remember: when we bring our lights together, we illuminate the path ahead—and create an enduring flame of freedom and love. May that light carry us forward into all that’s next!
The Well team will be taking this time to unplug and spend the holiday with our families, while we prepare for our upcoming May and June events. We look forward to meeting you at The Well after Passover! Have a zissen Pesach —sweet, freeing, and full of meaning!
